GNH Wins the 2009 Emerald Award from the Greene County Chamber of Commerce

GNH Wins the 2009 GCCC Emerald Award

Each year, the Greene County Chamber of Commerce recognizes the significant accomplishments of local individuals and businesses. The Emerald Awards are designed to recognize the true “gems” in the community and are presented to businesses and not-for-profit organizations based on member nominations

This year, Perry Lasher presented GNH with the Emerald Award for a large business at the Greene Jeans Gala – a fun, informal event. Perry's speach highlighted GNH's history and growth in Greene County, as well as mentioned the numerous ways that GNH gives back to the community through environmental stewardship and by being a proud supporter of many charitable and civic organizations.

GNH is honored to be the recipient of this very prestigious award.

Rebuilding the John Robb Lean-to

Rebuilding the John Robb lean-to

In October of 2009, GNH Lumber assisted the Catskill 3500 Club in their efforts to help rebuild a Hunter Mountain lean-to – which had been lost four years ago to a fire set by careless hikers. Over 20 volunteers aided in its reconstruction, and the finished structure was complete with cedar shingles and painted with a proective weatherizer. Others helped build a new fire pit near the lean-to and gather up fire wood. The rebuilding was a huge success, and the John Robb lean-to will be able to provide shelter to hikers for many years to come.

The Greenville Cultural Arts Center on Rt 32, a historical church used by the community for various organizational events, received a recent spruce up, thanks to the community and with help from GNH Lumber, who donated half of the paint for the job. The donated paint was a special Benjamin Moore paint, which almost eliminates volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and expands and contracts with the building as temperatures change.
