We are proud to support our local communities and a range of charitable initiatives. In the past, we have made donations to building and disaster relief projects, food pantry construction, community walking paths, local artists and arts grants recipients, and much more. We're grateful to do our part to keep our community vibrant and well.
We're grateful to do our part to keep our community vibrant and well. Here are a few of the projects we've supported in the past:
West Kill Lexington Community Hall Project
Over the past three years, the West Kill Lexington Community Hall has been making continued improvements to their building and facilities. This important and historically significant meeting place has served the community for over 70 years, and we were so excited to donate the materials they needed!
Unbridled Sanctuary Stall Project
In April 2021, GNH was proud to contribute building materials for this new stall at the Unbridled Thoroughbred Foundation to help give these beautiful horses a second chance. Since its construction, they tell us the stall has been a focal point of activities at Unbridled. Its occupant, Liam Let's Go aka "Liam" is a bit of a celebrity at the Sanctuary since he's the only boy horse among 18 mares. We're so glad to be a part of Liam's happy ending. Keep up this great and important work Unbridled!
Christmas Tree Sale at the Greenville GNH
In December 2020, GNH Lumber supported several local community organizations by hosting a Christmas Tree Sale in the Greenville GNH parking lots on weekends following Thanksgiving up until Christmas. Proceeds benefits several causes including The American Legion 291 and the Greenville FFA. Gratitude and thanks to those who purchased a Christmas tree at GNH in support of these wonderful organizations.
Susan Story's "Around the Apple Tree" Art Project
We were thrilled to donate paints to local artist, Susan Story for her ambitious "Around The Apple Tree" project! Story received the Individual Artist Commission grant in 2020 from by the Arts Center Of The Capital Region to paint a life-sized apple tree inspired by a tree in Rensselaerville.
"Free Pantry" Construction Project
We were proud to help The Switzkill Valley Volunteers build their "Free Pantry" in June 2020 by supplying this generous project. Thank you to all the volunteers who built this Food Pantry in the rain outside the Helderberg Lutheran Church. It looks great!
Dunk Booth at Farm Tractor & Machinery Show in Ashland
Dunk Booth in action (made by Jerry Hughes with materials donated by GNH Lumber) at The 10th Annual Farm Tractor & Machinery Show in Ashland in June 2018. Sponsored by the Ashland Historical Association.
Eagle Scout Project at Hannacroix Creek
In May of 2018, John Manning, RCS High School senior and Boy Scout in Troop 1081 out of Selkirk, helped with the Eagle Scout Project at the Hannacroix Creek Preserve. The 260-foot boardwalk improves the safety of hikers exploring the wetlands of the Paper Mill Trail. This project was made possible by the generous donations of several community businesses - including materials donated by GNH.
BKW Elementary School Sandbox Project
Bridget McDermott and Ashlyn Hanley, 8th graders at Berne Knox Westerlo Central School and members of Girl Scout Troop 1056, built this sandbox at the BKW elementary school. The project earned both girls the Silver Award, the highest award that a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. We donated the materials but Bridget and Ashlyn donated their time and hard work!
Dream Playhouse Raffle for Ronald McDonald House
The Dream Playhouse Raffle Winner, Jack Kelly, donated the playhouse to the Savino family for their grandchildren! GNH's Dream Playhouse was built in June 2014, and 100% of the raffle proceeds went to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of the Capital Region.
