Thinking about replacing an electrical outlet? GFCI outlets are most commonly used in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, garages or outdoors. It's important to use a GFCI outlet in any place where electricity might be exposed directly to water or dampness as they have a safety feature that will prevent a person from being shocked and will automatically shut off if it comes in contact with water.
Installation Process
The installation of a GFCI outlet is only a little more difficult than installing a standard electrical outlet. Make sure that you thoroughly read all installation directions for your outlet. Pay special attention to where the "line side" (wires coming directly from electrical box) and "load side" (wires that connect in the direction of other electrical outlets/fixtures) wires will connect.
Tips
It's very important to always remember safety when attempting a DIY project. If you ever have any questions or doubts, always consult a professional before attempting.
SAFETY FIRST: Always make sure the power is OFF before you disconnect or connect any wires!
